Player Info

The Scales of War campaign is designed for 5-6 players, starting at level 1 and working their way up through the Heroic, Paragon, and Epic tiers. Each tier will span about 6-8 adventures, so you can expect that each adventure will bring your characters up about 1.5 to 2 levels.

Allowed Races All races from the PHB, and also: Warforged, Gnoll, Drow, Genasi

Allowed Classes All from PHB, also Artificer (Leader), Bard (Leader/Controller), Swordmage (Defender), and Barbarian (Striker)

Roles As stated in the PHB, in 4th Ed. each character class fills a specific role in the party, namely Leader, Striker, Defender, and Controller. While players are free to play whatever roles they like, it is strongly recommended that at least one PC from each major role be present in the party. Below are the roles currently taken by existing party members so you can take that into account when creating your own PC’s.

  • Striker – Lazorra, Tiefling Rogue
  • Defender – Abach-Tor, Genasi Firesoul Swordmage
  • Defender – 404, Warforged Fighter
  • Controller – Aramir, Eladrin Wizard
  • Leader – Tærgus, Human Cleric of Kord

Backgrounds Your character is more than just a set of statistics, he or she also needs at least a basic background to flesh it out. Click the link below to open a PDF with several recommended Backgrounds for PC’s in the Scales of War campaign. You don’t have to use one of these backgrounds, but many of these offer your character additional bonuses or abilities, and they may be touched upon in future adventures as the campaign progresses, giving your character a closer connection to the events of the campaign. You’re also encouraged to mix and match, take aspects of one background and mix it with those of another if you like. Please consult with the DM to see what, if any, benefits such a mixed background might generate.
